Kia ora e te whānau we hope you’re keeping warm in this weather!

Mānawatia a Matariki!

We hope you all had time to reflect on the past and those who have passed on, celebrate the present, and be able to look ahead and plan for the future.

The rōpū from He Ture Kia Tika have been working hard as we start on the final stage of our project and look forward to sharing more of what we have found. This includes upcoming events and dissemination of our short films and overall recommendations flowing from this research, which we are excited about.

Gifting the story of Rongopai House

Dave recently gifted back our first of several hapori (community group) stories. This is part of our second stage of He Ture Kia Tika, called He kohikohinga pūrākau hapori, where we collaborated with communities that have positively impacted the lives of whānau entangled with the criminal justice system while experiencing mental distress and addiction.

Here, Dave reflects on gifting back one of our hapori pūrākau to Rongopai House which supports many whānau up North, aiming to create “thriving whānau, thriving communities.”

“It was great to catch up with Dino from Rongopai House in Kaitaia to give back his pūrakau story that focuses on their amazing work. Dino was quite moved by the realisation of the extent of the work they do and the impact they have on their community. He said it was easy to get stuck in the day-to-day grind and forget about the effect they have on people’s lives. We are incredibly grateful to Dino and his team for their work and for sharing this with us”.

Dino is the Vicar of St. Saviours Anglican Church Kaitaia and Director of Rongopai House Community Trust. You can read more about the support provided here in collaboration with other fantastic community providers.

We are aware there has been some radio silence, but we are very much dedicated to the mahi and look forward to another update soon. Watch this space!
